Make-A-Wish…Bonjour!

Posted July 9th, 2010 by Mama

We’re here…and exhausted!  Morgan was a trooper on the flight over with very little drama.  The Mayfair Hotel is so quaint, and Morgan has already taken two very luxurious baths!!  She uses her two mastered words of Bonjour and Merci everyday!

We are sweating our tails off over here, as the weather is quite warm.  We are also walking EVERYWHERE, which Morgan is not as used to, because normally we would have her scooter - I miss that scooter with every step we take ( so not kidding…love her!)  Now, one would think that all this walking would mean that Mama would be working on her svelt figure…SOOOOO true, BUT does not work when we are stuffing our faces with baguettes, triple cream Brie, croissants (chocolate - why the hell not), and all the other low fat foods of Paris!

Took a semi-private bus tour today and learned that if you stand 20 seconds in front of each picture at the Louvre, it would take you 3 months of full night and day viewing to see everything.  That little tid bid was lost on Morgan, as she was exhausted with jet lag, and had fallen asleep on my shoulder!

Happy Birthday (again!)

So, we were back at the pool this year for Morgan’s actual birthday!  Such a great sunny day.  We followed up the day with a movie and sleepover for some of the girls…who stayed up till 2am this morning!!!!  What a difference a year makes.  Morgan is doing great…I think her wish while blowing out the candles was “hope there are good sales in Paris!”

Happy Birthday Morgan!

Today was Morgan’s one year anniversary for her Bone Marrow transplant.  Thanks to all of our family, and friends who stood by us and provided tremendous help and support in a time of great need, and a very special thanks to the anonymous donor who saved Morgan’s life.  I can only hope that I can someday I will be able to do the same.

Morgan met with the doctors the other day for a full day’s worth of testing to see where she stands in her recovery.  In true Morgan fashion she came through with flying colors, is in full remission, and the future looks bright once again!  Go Morgan!

Wish Granted!

Morgan’s Aquarium Adventure

Click on “Morgan’s Aquarium Adventure” above to see her video

Today was a great day for Morgan!  Her long awaited trip back to Adventure Aquarium.  She has wanted to go back for some time now, and has been able to, but she didn’t want to go back until she was able to pet the sharks.

Morgan has a funny way about her sometimes.  Even though she has been allowed to visit the Aquarium for a while now, she had not been given clearance to pet the sharks, and just wouldn’t go back until she could immerse herself in the entire experience.

Today her wish came true.   Armed with a pocket full of cash, and a lot of hand sanitizer we made our way over the bridge, and into the parking lot.  She popped out of the car jumping up and down yelling, come on Daddy, hurry up, were going to miss it.  I explained to her that the fish weren’t going anywhere but my words fell on deaf ears, and a grin that went from ear to ear.

All-in-all the day was a huge success, without any issues, and her new bag filled with toys from the gift shop, made it all the better!

I blame Facebook…

I do!  I upload pictures all the time with Morgan, so I forget to update the blog because I update Facebook!  So enough of my ranting.  Morgan is doing GREAT!  She still has some of her gut GVHD, but not as often.  As the weather gets better (although the last few days have been SOGGY), her energy starts to soar.

We are trying to play catch up with her school work.  We are way behind since in the beginning she was so tired, and we could not get in the mandated 5 hours a day.  Now though, as the sun shines into our apartment, it becomes difficult to focus on her school work!  THIS PROBLEM, we will handle.  If this is our worst right now….we’ll celebrate it!!!!

We have received our Make-A-Wish, and are confirmed for Paris July 8-15!!!!  Morgan is soooo excited.  The photos above reflect outfits she is considering bringing with her…

Chef’s in the Making!

Posted February 4th, 2010 by Daddy

Well the Auto show is in town and the Dad’s have been pretty busy.  For that matter so are the Mom’s!  As it worked out, it turned into Dad’s and Daughter’s day at work, go figure!  So what do the smart Dad’s do, we put them to work!  Morgan and Jenna became bored with us, so the Chef’s took over.

Two pints of huge strawberries, lots of warm milk chocolate, and two budding Chef’s add up to an afternoon of sheer delight. Needless to say it was a great diversion for all.

And the envelope please…

The doctors called, and GREAT news, we are still 100% donor bone marrow.  Morgan is still in remission.  We have only one obstacle that we are concentrating on, and that is Morgan’s immune system.  Her numbers there seem to be down, SOooo, we will be going into the day hospital once a month for some IV treatments to boost her immune system.  Otherwise, we are on track for the mother-daughter arguments, and make-up sessions over chocolate icecream!

Update From Morgan!

Posted January 26th, 2010 by Daddy

Morgan has decided that it is time for her to make her own posts.  However she is in the dictation mode and not full blown writer mode yet.

Morgan has been making great progress in the last few months, and the weaning process seems to be winding down.  She is down to two pills a day.  And her body strength is kicking in full tilt.

While taking a short cut through Macy’s to get to her favorite store, Blick Art supplies, Morgan decided to make a pit stop in the hat section.  Needless to say we had a few good laughs, along with a few other folks who happened to pass by and caught glimpse of Morgan darting back and forth between the hat rack and the mirror.

Anyway that’s my piece, now for Morgan’s…

Morgan wanted everyone to know that she is doing great, and very much realizes that she feels fully revitalized.  She now has lots of energy every day, and likes the fact that her hair is growing back.

She has taken a liking to baking, but prefers to give direction, rather then get all messy.  It’s definitely entertaining to go through the process with her.  Wrestling is also back on the agenda, Kato is in the house!

Staying on the right path…

Just finished with our clinic appointment, and Morgan has been moved to one visit every 3 weeks!  Yeah!  Her skin is healing well, just some small rough patches, and her scalp is a little dry with some GVHD, but all together looks great.  Her gut GVHD is slowly recovering as well.

I asked how she was pacing in regards to being out of transplant for EIGHT MONTHS.  The doctors said she is doing GREAT.  Better than anticipated for a girl who over the summer had grade four GVHD, which is the worst case.

She continues to collect her favorit chatchkey (not sure of spelling), which are Pet Shops.  We are always on the look out for the “newest” additions to her collection.  Pop Pop decided to take a photo with all her booty…173 and counting!!!

Lookin good!…

Morgan really seems to be doing well!  We were supposed to go to clinic last week, but they called and moved us to this week, so 3 weeks since our last check-up.  This is great news, if they were concerned, we would be there weekly.  The doctors mentioned last check-up that Morgan was pacing so well, they could see her returning to school in February/March!!! Unfortunately, H1N1 has sidelined that opportunity, so we remain home schooled till next year - I don’t know who was more devastated…

Morgan is back in full swing, and has almost mastered her multiplication of zero, ones, twos, fives, tens, elevens and twelves.  Thank goodness for multiplcation.com, otherwise I would be pulling my hair out by now!  As you can see from the photo above, Morgan has remained the shy girl we all remember, and yes, that is lipstick she is wearing - she has her Grammy’s genes.
